Calcium nitrate contains a high percentage of nitrate-nitrogen, which makes this one of the most cost effective nitrate-nitrogen sources for fertigation. When applied as a solid, there is no risk of losing any of the N as ammonia gas due to all the nitrogen being in the nitrate form.
